Carmelo Cappello was born in Ragusa in 1912.
After his first studies at the Comisio Art Institute he moved to Rome where he lived for a year working in Ettore Colla's studio. In 1930 he moved to Milan where he attended evening courses at the Castello Sforzesco. A scholarship allows him to follow the courses of Arturo Martini and Marino Marini at the Istituto Superiore d'Arte in Monza.
In 1937 he began his activity as a sculptor.
